Characteristics And Types Of Satin Fabric
Dec 10, 2022
The weaving process of satin fabric is relatively complicated. On the same garment surface, only one kind of warp yarn and weft yarn covers the surface of the garment in the form of floating length. The case where the warp float covers the surface is called warp satin, and the case where the weft float covers the surface is called weft satin. The longer floating thread makes the surface of the fabric have better luster and is easy to reflect light, so the fabric of all-cotton satin will give people a sense of luster. At the same time, satin fabric is more durable, it will not become smaller after washing, and it will not become larger after a long time of use, and the surface of satin fabric is relatively cool, which is very suitable for summer wear.
The surface of satin weave fabric is flat, smooth and shiny. The front and back have different appearances, each presenting a type of yarn. Because longer floats can form a bright surface, it is easier to reflect light, especially when bright filament yarns with small twists are used, this effect is more intense.
Because the interweaving points of satin weave are far apart, the individual weaving points are covered by floating long lines on both sides, and no obvious interweaving points can be seen on the front, so it has the following characteristics:
1. Long warp or weft floating threads are easy to rub, fluff and snag.
2. The warp and weft yarns have the least interweaving points, and the weaving density is the highest. The satin weave is thicker than plain weave and twill weave, with soft texture and good drapability.
3. The surface is smooth and even, full of luster.
Types of common satin weave fabrics:
Woolen fabrics: dresses
Cotton fabric: horizontal satin, straight satin
Silk fabrics: crepe satin, brocade, soft satin
